Who is Juwal Bose?

January 10, 2009

I am Juwal Bose, creative soul, entrepreneur who likes to travel and explore the wild. I am currently engaged in creative development of games as Creative Head at own firm Csharks in the beautiful state of Kerala in the wonderful country of India.

Life started for me on 10th July 1981 and was always a unique one as the start itself. I was born into a Hindu Ezhava nuclear family. My father was from the place Kothamangalam and the family “Manjamkuzhy” which was originally from the place Kolenchery. He now works as manager in one of Indias leading private sector banks. My mother comes from the place Vadakkencherry and the family “Mandakath”. She works in health sector and currently a store keeper at head hospital. I was named ‘Juwal’ derived from jewel by my father possibly due to my uniqueness. I still stand apart due to this unique name and thanks to him I get almost all required names on the internet.

I did my schooling till 5th standard and a little bit of sixth at Vimalagiri Public school. I was just another guy there who scored a rank under 10 usually, but uniquely entertaining my friends with my ‘radio’ hand. I could make a small ticking noise using a bone in my small hand. I had stopped it when I grew up and i cant move that bone any more. Father had his job transfer to Rajkot in Gujarat and I tried to get into Navodaya Vidhyalaya along with my friends. I didnt get the admission in the first place which made me heart broken. But just bedore the mid term I got in, thanks to one guy who was so home sick that he eloped from the residential school. I met this guy during my Btech and he had not changed a bit.

My life in Navodaya made me what I am. I would never have developed the confidence or will to move on with my quest for dreams unless I was brought up under such fine training. In Navodaya we need to spent from class 6 to 12th living along with all the other students and teachers as a family. We have to do all our work, studies, play, co-curricular activities and what not. When we pass out of the school a Navodayan will be able to make his living no matter what. I used to be the captain of freshers and the much famous ‘Blue’ house. Academically Navodaya elevated me to the elite club collecting lots of profeciency prices and certificates for co-curricular activities.

After Navodaya I went for entrance coaching at Brilliant Study centre at Palai. Initially I got admitted to LBS college at Kasargoad and later on revision of ranks my rank fell down to 1885 and my father offered me a payment seat for Electronics and Communication Engineering at Chengannur Engineering college. Life at college was different when I came to know people from all over Kerala. I was not much eager to study anymore as I felt my interests were else where. I became a sportsguy who was good in badminton, football and table tennis. Later on I was elected to the senate as Magazine Editor and brought out XpressionZ the college magazine just when our batch passed out in 2003.

My interests were in the creative field and I loved computer games. This interest was acquired when I went to my moms friends house to learn DOS. Her children taught me DOS and computer usage when I was having free time after school. So at college I bought books on 3D max and started learning about developing games. I never wanted to end up as a programmer developing modules of code which meant nothing to me. After college I went to learn Maya from Amrita Multimedia at Kollam. I got in as a Maya trainer in Image multimedia at Kochi when I was called back to Amrita to lead the multimedia team for a Flash based e-learning project for Amrita Technologies. I hated 2d graphics and Flash in particular, never did I knew that this software was going to be my bread and butter.

It was a process of learning flash as I worked and when I realised that my potential was being wasted, I quit to join Csharks as an Artist. Now I am really hesitant to call myself an artist when Csharks have such talented professionals. It has been a hunt for a dream instilled by some visionary people behind Csharks. We went through several ups and downs when ultimately I had to step in to be a partner of the firm and later on a Director of Csharks Games and Solutions Pvt Ltd. The firm had grown from 2 people to 15 through lots of hardwork and reinvestment of the money acquired. Currently I hold the post of Creative Head which makes me responsible for game design, Flash actionscript training and art analyst.

Also I look out for new technologies which may help us increase productivity or create new interactive softwares in the technologies that we work in. I still play a lot of games at home, love to read a lot of fiction, science and stuff and try my hand in some open source creative softwares at home. My other blog ia openjewelbox and i contribute to keralacitizenbloggers. I have a brother who is studying for BTech Computer Science at Ilahiya College of Engineering.
